Starting your first job out of college can be very intimidating, but also exciting. Among other lessons, my first few weeks at Cuebiq as a Marketing Coordinator have taught me to be personable, open-minded, and patient. While the transition from college to the working world has not always been easy, I’ve been lucky at Cuebiq to be surrounded by supportive coworkers who have helped guide me along the way.
Beating the Post-Grad Blues by Landing a Job
Graduating from college and starting an entry-level job can be described in one word: bittersweet. Prior to college, everyone is constantly reminding you how fast those next four years will go by. Before you know it, whether you’re ready or not, you’ll have to face the real world.
At the end of my senior year, I still had absolutely no idea what I wanted to do. All I could think about was not being able to find a job after graduation. In the blink of an eye, the best four years of my life were coming to an end, whether I liked it or not, leading me to ask myself that dreaded question: “Well… now what?”
After saying goodbye to Sacred Heart University, a place that had been my home away from home for the past four years, I had to move out of my college house with my four best friends and back in with my parents on Long Island. While I was definitely not looking forward to giving up the college lifestyle I had grown so accustomed to, I certainly enjoyed soaking in a newfound feeling of freedom. I had now entered a world where there would be no more exams or all-night study sessions, and I could have a beach day whenever I wanted. Who had it better than me?
However, that feeling of freedom quickly turned into boredom. I found myself taking daily trips to Target and Marshall’s for absolutely no reason. I sent out resume after resume and filled out many applications, just hoping I would hear back from one company and be given the opportunity to interview there.
Luckily, I came across the perfect entry-level job opportunity at Cuebiq: a Marketing Coordinator role. I applied and was offered a position after two rounds of interviews. These interviews gave me the chance to meet with everyone on the Marketing team face-to-face, which helped solidify my desire to work here.
The feeling that I had after landing my first full-time job, in my favorite city of New York nonetheless, was a mix of excitement and nerves. I had no idea what to expect. However, it was the start of a whole new chapter, and I was ready for it.
Adjusting to Cuebiq’s Company Culture
Now that I am a few weeks into my job at Cuebiq, I am slowly but surely adjusting to the transition. First and foremost, I have quickly learned what the company culture is like. It has been clear since day one on the job that here at Cuebiq, we are a family.
Everyone genuinely cares about each other, roots for one another, supports one another, and ultimately wants to see one another reach success. This is just one factor that makes working at Cuebiq such a unique, enjoyable, and positive experience.
In addition, the team is always looking for different ways to spend time with one another, whether that be through biweekly happy hours, daily catered lunches in the office (huge perk), midday ping pong games, or our annual company-wide retreat. I have been welcomed with open arms since the moment I first walked into the office, and that is something not many people can say when starting a new job.
Working for a Location Intelligence Company
What I love most about my job so far is knowing that I have the opportunity to grow in both a professional and personal sense at Cuebiq. Growth was something that was crucial for me to find in my first job — I wanted to be able to get real work experience. Luckily, here I get quite a lot of that.
My position entails supporting the SVP of Marketing, Valentina, as well as the entire Marketing team. I assist with brand and content marketing, event planning, product marketing, corporate communications, and administrative support. This position gives me the opportunity to collaborate with my entire team in weekly meetings and explore, so that I can eventually find my niche and discover my true passion within marketing. Ultimately, this will enable me to move forward within the company.
I am extremely grateful that I have been given the opportunity to start my career here, and I could not have asked for a better onboarding process. Starting a job at a fast-paced location intelligence company can be intimidating. My biggest fear was not being able to grasp the “ins and outs” of all things Cuebiq, considering the marketing technology behind our location intelligence platform is quite complex.
However, thanks to my coworkers, I have never once felt overwhelmed — they’ve done everything possible to ensure I learn at a comfortable speed. They’ve offered “Cuebiq 101” and “Geolocation 101” sessions to help me learn what I needed to know about the company.
In addition, they continuously encourage me to ask questions, which always reassures me. Overall, I cannot wait to see what the future has in store for me at Cuebiq, and I am excited to see where the journey takes me.
